Grand Enclos du Château de Cerons – 2016

17.75

Official Tasting Notes:
Bright pale yellow, with green gold reflects the nose is intense and at the same time pure and refined. Initially floral and ripe litchi scent ending with agrume and Amalfi lemon notes. Rich at the attack, due to the perfect maturity of the vintage for whites. Great tasting refinement of the sauvignon with its notes of agrumes and fruity expressiveness. Follows a rich Semillon, without heaviness, with notes of white peach, honey and bee wax Great purity mixing suavity and freshness. Exceptional length allowing wine to bonify with time .

John’s View:
No better example of Graves white wine at any price below €50 – end of story. Has enough depth to deal with any fish or poultry (I had it with roast duck and it was sublime). I am not a big fan of Sauvignon Blanc dominated wines as I find them thin and bitter, the Semillon here does so much hard work in making a more balanced, rounded wine. Currently my favourite white wine at this price point (but see below….).

Giorgio has shunned the negociants of ‘La Place’ in Bordeaux and as a result this wine is probably less well known than would otherwise have been the case. This is good news for everyone reading this as the price is more than affordable and it has not been snapped up by the French restaurant market
