With apologies for the translation from a French wine guru who insists I use his version of English…. Nice deep dress. Rich, generous nose with notes of strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrant. Powerful and unctuous mouth, supported by present but melted tannins.

John’s View:
I love the very best wines of St Emilion they are multi-layered, have a real ‘wow’ factor when you drink them. To be honest this stuff is not in their league. It is very well made, it is smooth and very easy to drink and it is a great price for the quality it delivers. One of the best value sub £20 wines in St Emilion.

Château Tour Puy Blanquet

Most of the wines on our site are really hard to find in the UK, this one is the exception because it is actually pretty hard to find anywhere in Europe. Probably in part due to the fact that they only make 2,500 cases but also due to the fact that it is great value.

This is a classic little family-owned St Emilion estate with no pretentions who are focused on making really good, well balanced wine. As usual it is merlot based but it has up to 85% of it in here (most winemakers stop at 70%), which makes it a more concentrated, smoother wine.

Perfect with red meat (works really well with spaghetti bolognaise) or duck but this wine works either as an everyday wine or for those informal Friday night dinners with friends.

Will last easily until the middle of the next decade.
